From St. George and Washington to Hurricane, Ivins and Santa Clara, use this guide to connect recreation with the practical details of relocation, a second home or your next purchase.

Sand Hollow & Quail Creek: two ways to spend a lake day
Sand Hollow boating & personal watercraft
Plan a day around the reservoir, red-sand shoreline and nearby Sand Mountain riding area. Check park conditions and launch access before taking a boat or trailer.
Official Sand Hollow park information · Current conditions
Published rental pricing
Sand Hollow Rentals advertises rentals starting at $209, an overall $209–$1,979 range and durations of 2–10 hours. These are broad advertised ranges, not a guaranteed price for a particular boat or rental length.
The listed personal watercraft are Sea-Doo models. If you are searching for a “WaveRunner,” confirm the actual make and model. Gas and tax are extra; listed equipment includes a $16/hour fuel charge and some vehicles require a $300 deposit hold. Confirm all charges for your equipment and date.
Operator pricing checked October 18, 2026. View boats, personal watercraft & current prices.
Quail Creek boating & paddling
Explore another Washington County reservoir for a boat outing or paddle session. Utah State Parks lists DIG Paddlesports and Mad Moose among its local rental resources.
Park-listed rental operators · Official Quail Creek information
Mad Moose lists boat and jet-ski rentals. A reliable date-, equipment- and duration-specific price was not available in the reviewed public pages, so request a current total before booking.

Launches, docks & marina planning
Use official ramp information for access and conditions. Floating launch docks are not a promise of marina services, reserved slips or overnight mooring. Verify those arrangements directly with the park or rental operator.
Boat & personal watercraft rental operators
Several local companies rent boats, jet skis, and water toys around Washington County. None of the four below publish boat or jet-ski prices on their websites — all require a call, text, or started booking for a quote, so this guide lists what each rents and how to reach them rather than printing numbers that can’t be verified. When you call, ask about delivery to the lake versus pickup, fuel policy, deposit holds, and what’s included.

Boat and personal-watercraft prices were not displayed on their public pages during the October 18, 2026 check — confirm current pricing when booking.
Saving money on rentals
Town-based operators (Washington, St. George) can be worth a call before defaulting to the at-the-lake counter — ask each about delivery to the reservoir versus pickup, since delivery fees and fuel policies change the real total. Book jet skis 1–2 weeks ahead in summer; all four operators confirm availability is seasonal.
No operator here is presented as cheapest or best — compare current quotes for your dates.
Boat launching, docks & reservoirs
Washington County’s three state-park reservoirs each have boat ramps with floating courtesy docks — short-term loading docks, not rentable marina slips. None of the three parks rents overnight slips or mooring; plan accordingly. Your park day-use fee covers launch access (no separate launch fee), and Utah law requires wakeless speed within 150 feet of ramps, docks, and swimmers.
Sand Hollow
Official park page · 435-680-0715
Two boat ramps (main + southern) with floating courtesy docks and large trailer parking. Open to powerboats, personal watercraft, and ski/wakeboard boats. Mandatory mussel decontamination (May–Sep 7 AM–7 PM; Oct–Apr 7 AM–5 PM).
Day-use: Utah resident $25/vehicle · senior $10 · non-resident $35 · walk-in $5 · annual pass $125 ($65 senior).
Fees last checked October 18, 2026.
Quail Creek
Official park page · 435-879-2378
Double ramp (north) plus single ramp (south), floating courtesy docks, and a separate paddlecraft launch on this ~600-acre reservoir. Arrive early: the park enforces a maximum boating capacity, and launches can be restricted by reservoir level — call ahead. Decontamination certification required.
Day-use: Utah resident $20 · senior $10 · out-of-state $25 · walk-in $5 · annual $125 ($65 senior).
Fees and restrictions last checked October 18, 2026.
Gunlock
Official park page · 435-218-6544
The quieter alternative — a smaller reservoir west of St. George with a boat ramp (May–Sep 7 AM–8 PM; Oct–Apr 7 AM–7 PM). No marina; standard Utah boating rules apply. Note: the falls are currently inactive and an algae watch is in effect — check conditions before swimming.
Day-use: Utah resident $15 · senior $10 · out-of-state $25 · annual $125 ($65 senior).
Fees last checked October 18, 2026.
Trails, red-rock scenery & desert recreation
Mountain biking & cycling
Gooseberry Mesa offers technical mountain biking; review the BLM map and difficulty information rather than treating it as a beginner family route. For everyday cycling, explore city paths and choose a route suited to your group.
BLM Gooseberry Mesa trail guide · St. George city trail explorer
Snow Canyon hiking & scenery
Pair a scenic outing with a hike or a paved-route ride. Snow Canyon offers hiking trails and designated cycling routes, including Whiptail. Check the park’s maps and alerts: not every hiking trail allows bikes.
OHV, ATV & UTV outings
Explore designated Sand Mountain riding areas near Sand Hollow. Match the terrain to your experience and confirm current access rules and rental requirements with the park and operator before choosing guided or self-guided riding.
Sand Hollow riding information · Local land-equipment rentals
Red Cliffs Range
The range welcomes public visitors. Its FAQ lists $20 per nonmember and free admission for active military, active law enforcement and children 15 and under. Age, supervision and range-use rules still apply. Check current hours, closures and eligibility before visiting.
Operator FAQ checked October 15, 2026. Range pricing, rules & seasonal hours.
Family time, through the seasons
Build a flexible day around a city path, park visit, scenic drive or paddling session suited to your group. Use official park calendars for ranger activities. Plan around heat, weather, daylight and seasonal hours rather than assuming every activity is available year-round.
For relocation, visit at different times of day and, when possible, in more than one season. A vacation itinerary and an everyday routine can feel very different.
Mountain biking: from first ride to slickrock
Washington County has purpose-built singletrack for every level. Four trail systems to know, ordered beginner to advanced:
Bear Claw Poppy — beginner
St. George (Green Valley) · Trailforks page
Trailforks calls it “one of the most popular beginner trails in North America.” Smooth, flowy hard-pack clay with rollers and gentle berms — a 2.1-mile signature downhill, with popular 5–11 mile loops. Optional technical features (Acid Drops, Clavicle Hill) let progressing riders step up.
Runs through BLM’s Red Bluff Area of Critical Environmental Concern — protected Dwarf Bearclaw Poppy habitat; stay on established trails. Last checked October 18, 2026.
JEM Trail — intermediate
Virgin/Hurricane · BLM page · Trailhead off SR-59.
Fast, flowy, mostly smooth singletrack (6.7 miles; commonly ridden as a 14.1-mile out-and-back or linked into Dead Ringer/Goosebumps loops). One steep downhill around 0.75 miles is for strong riders — walkable. Views of Zion’s sandstone towers and the Virgin River.
Last checked October 18, 2026.
Barrel Roll — intermediate
Santa Clara River Reserve · Cove Wash Trailhead (Little Valley area).
A classic ~5.6–6 mile rolling singletrack loop — mostly fast and fun with a short technical section. Connects to Sidewinder and Church Rocks for longer rides.
Last checked October 18, 2026.
Gooseberry Mesa — advanced
Near Hurricane (BLM land) · Trailforks page
World-class technical slickrock: ledges, drops, short punchy climbs, and real exposure across an 18.3-mile loop system (common rides ~13.5 miles). The South Rim is rated extreme; a practice loop lets newcomers sample mesa riding. BLM’s first official mountain-bike trail in Washington County (dedicated 1999), with 360° views of Zion, Smithsonian Butte, and the Pine Valley Mountains.
Not a beginner trail — build skills at Bear Claw Poppy first. Last checked October 18, 2026.
Bringing your own bike?
Several St. George bike shops rent and service mountain bikes if you’re visiting before a move — call ahead in spring and fall, when rental fleets run thin. If you’re relocating with bikes, garage storage matters here: summer heat punishes rubber and suspension seals, so shaded or indoor storage is worth prioritizing in your home search.
Shooting ranges around St. George

Public, all-volunteer clay-target club — shotgun sports only. Two automated sporting-clay courses, a supersport course, 5-stand, two skeet fields, and four trap fields with voice commands.
Know the games: Trap — targets thrown away from the shooter. Skeet — crossing targets from high and low houses. Sporting clays — “golf with a shotgun,” varied stations simulating hunting scenarios.
Fall hours: Wed–Sat 9–3, Sun 9–1. Per-round pricing isn’t published — call 435-275-6600 for current rates. Rental shotguns available. Last checked October 18, 2026.
OHV & four-wheeling

Explore city trails, services and your likely daily routes. If Desert Color is on your list, verify the specific property’s amenities, HOA costs and permitted use.
Washington
Compare established neighborhoods and areas such as Sienna Hills and Escondido. Review address-specific rules rather than assuming a community name means vacation rentals are allowed.

Include reservoir access and desert recreation in your visit, then check the practical details: commute, equipment storage, utilities and property-specific restrictions.
Ivins & Santa Clara
Explore these communities alongside a Snow Canyon outing. Compare the actual homes, streets and services against your household’s priorities.

Living & exploring in Washington County: FAQs
Where should I start when exploring Washington County?
Compare St. George, Washington, Hurricane, Ivins and Santa Clara against your everyday routine. Visit the actual neighborhood, drive your likely commute and check property-specific HOA rules before deciding.
Can I rent a boat or personal watercraft near St. George?
Yes — local options include Flow Water Rentals (Washington), Utah Power Toys (St. George), Utah ATV Rentals (Washington), and Sand Hollow Rentals (at the lake in Hurricane). None publish boat or jet-ski prices online, so call or text for current rates and ask about delivery versus pickup, fuel policy, and deposit holds. Last checked October 18, 2026.
Are marina slips or overnight docking available?
No. Sand Hollow, Quail Creek, and Gunlock have floating courtesy docks for short-term loading only — none of the three parks rents overnight slips or mooring. Plan to trailer your boat daily; your park day-use fee covers launch access.
Can I keep a boat or UTV at my new home?
Check the specific HOA documents, municipal requirements, garage dimensions and trailer access before buying. A neighborhood’s proximity to recreation does not establish permission to store equipment or operate a vacation rental.
Does Mortgage Rebel operate Stay Propr?
No. Stay Propr is a separate vacation-rental property management company with which Kris Matyas has an existing business relationship. Its rentals and management services are separate from Mortgage Rebel mortgage services.
Do St. George boat rental companies publish their prices online?
Generally no. The local operators we checked (Flow Water Rentals, Utah Power Toys, Utah ATV Rentals, Sand Hollow Rentals) quote by phone, text, or started booking rather than listing boat and jet-ski prices on their sites. Call for current rates and ask about delivery versus pickup, fuel policy, and deposit holds — those change the real total. Last checked October 18, 2026.
What does Utah require to ride an OHV?
Everyone operating on Utah public land must complete the free online Utah OHV Education Course (one-time, about 20–30 minutes) at ohv.utah.gov — guided-tour participants are exempt. Non-residents need a $30/year OHV permit. Helmets are required for all operators and passengers under 18, and Sand Mountain requires a whip flag (8 ft, red or orange).
Which shooting range fits a first-time shooter?
Rowdy’s Range (indoor, St. George) is the easiest entry point: climate-controlled 25-yard lanes, rentals from $15, a $35 range-plus-rental combo, and staff used to first-timers. Red Cliffs (outdoor, Hurricane) is better for rifle work at distance but has no rentals — bring your own. Purgatory is shotgun-only clay sports.
